Mindful Learning: Integrating Meditation and Movement for Student Well-Being and Confidence

About this Session

Today’s classrooms are filled with students carrying a wide range of emotions, experiences, and energy. This interactive workshop explores how meditation and mindful movement can be used to meet learners where they are, supporting their mental, emotional, and physical well-being so they can access deeper learning.

Grounded in the Dimensions of Sound Classroom Assessment Practice (AAC), this session connects wellness practices with assessment by helping educators notice and respond to students’ needs (Dimension 3), offer moments of reflection (Dimension 6), and engage students in recognizing their own growth (Dimensions 4 & 5).

Participants will experience and learn 5–10 practical strategies they can weave into their daily routines to calm the nervous system, improve focus, and build student confidence. These techniques help students shift from stress or shutdown into their prefrontal cortex, where they are more available for critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity.

We’ll also explore how to:

  • Use mindfulness check-ins and reflection tools as formative assessment
  • Highlight students’ strengths and growth in ways that boost self-awareness and confidence
  • Create space for feedback and emotional regulation alongside academic learning

Educators will leave with a toolkit they can start using immediately, plus a renewed perspective on how assessment includes not only what students know, but how they show up to learn.

Please bring your own beverage and lunch.  Lunch is off-site whether you choose to bring your own lunch or dine out.

Participants are asked to bring their own yoga mat, if possible.

Carman Murray

Hi, I'm Carman...

I’m a teacher, coach, and author who helps educators reconnect with what matters, without sacrificing themselves in the process.

After 15 years in the classroom (and 20+ in education), I found myself burned out and barely hanging on. That experience didn’t break me - it rebuilt me. Now, I walk alongside teachers as they rebuild too.

Through coaching, workshops, retreats, and my book "Teachers First: A Guide to Avoiding and Overcoming Burnout", I support teachers in creating rhythms that restore their energy, leadership that reflects their values, and classrooms that feel more like communities. I believe that teaching is leadership, and it starts with how we show up every day.

I live on a ranch in Alberta, where the rhythms of land, family, and aligned living continue to shape both my life and my mission. If you’re an educator who’s poured everything into your classroom and still feel like it’s not enough, know this: you’re not alone. And you don’t have to do it all.
