Developing Assessment Literacy: From Planning to Reporting
About this Session
This five-session professional learning series builds teachers’ assessment literacy across the full cycle of classroom practice—from planning with clear outcomes to interpreting and communicating student learning. Grounded in research-informed practices, each session bridges theory to classroom context through practical application. Participants implement strategies in their own classrooms, such as clarifying success criteria, designing inclusive assessments, strengthening feedback, and gathering meaningful evidence. Between sessions, teachers bring back artifacts to reflect on impact, challenges, and next steps. This cycle of learning, application, and reflection supports more accurate assessment, improved student learning, and a more sustainable and manageable approach to teaching.

Facilitator
Shannon Ireland
Shannon Ireland has been an educator for over 14 years with experience spanning across grades 2-9 in English and French Immersion programs. Her passion areas are assessment and curriculum development. She is currently exploring both of these areas as she works to complete her Master's of Education with the Werklund School of Education in Calgary. When she is not facilitating or creating teacher resources, Shannon can be found outside exploring nature with her two young children, whom she considers her most influential teachers.
